Will Donald Trump resolve the Taiwan-China conflict? What About DJI?

With Donald Trump´s return to the head of the white house, a change in the Taiwan-China conflict is set to happen sooner or later, as indicated with Trump´s first presidency that witnessed different policies towards China. This change will directly affect the drone trade in many ways.

DJI Ban and Taiwan-China Tensions

Trump´s previous presidency adopted economic contributions and defense spending, an approach that could drive Taiwan to question the US-Taiwan relations, especially with Trump´s claims that Taiwan should pay the US for defense support and his criticism towards Taiwan´s semiconductor industry. This means that Trump puts his focus on economic benefits rather than Taiwan´s support, which will affect its position in the Taiwan-China conflict.

On the other hand, China might seize this opportunity to negotiate a strategic bargain that might potentially lower tensions in exchange for modifications on trade issues.

The continuation of China´s technological ban, including drone giants DJI, under Trump´s presidency could represent his efforts to stop relying on Chinese technology and boost US manufacturing. Trump´s `America First´ policy might even intensify the ban over Chinese drone technology and focus on safeguarding US data and intellectual property.

Taiwan might find itself in a crucial situation, as the country needs to increase defense spending and self-defense technologies to face China´s threats. In other words, Trump´s second tenure in the white house could introduce a combination of economic and military policies in this situation. Taiwan must analyze these changes thoroughly to maintain its position against the Chinese threats.
