Meteksan Defence Radar Tech Can Spot Drones, Terrorists, and Smugglers as Never Before

At IDEF 2025, Meteksan Defence stunned the defense world with a trio of cutting-edge radar systems designed to dominate the skies, secure borders, and counter the ever-evolving drone threat. With the unveiling of its integrated ground, air, and anti-drone platforms, Meteksan showcased not just isolated technologies but a full-spectrum solution for modern security forces facing asymmetric threats.
Taking center stage was the newly enhanced Retinar Ground Surveillance Radar. This long-range radar can detect human movement up to 12 kilometers away and track vehicles beyond that. What sets it apart is its ability to identify even the slowest targets, including crawling individuals, using micro-Doppler spectrogram analysis and precise trajectory tracking. With full 360-degree coverage, this system can create an invisible yet impenetrable security net. Designed to integrate easily with electro-optical sensors and high-resolution cameras, it enables the creation of virtual surveillance zones that are ideal for border control, military perimeters, and critical infrastructure defense. Its all-weather operation and rapid response capability make it a crucial asset for forces operating in challenging terrain.
Right beside it stood the KAPAN Counter Drone System—a battlefield-tested shield against the growing threat of micro and mini UAVs. This isn’t just radar with a siren. It combines Retinar FAR-AD radar detection, EO/IR sensors for positive target identification, and a built-in RF jammer to take drones down fast. Already deployed in sensitive military zones, the KAPAN system operates with AI-assisted classification software and a command-and-control interface capable of tracking and engaging multiple drone targets at once—even swarms. Its detection radius spans up to 5 kilometers in all directions, and it works just as effectively in fog, dust, and complex urban environments. Whether mounted on a tower, fixed installation, or mobile vehicle, KAPAN gives operators a flexible, powerful tool against one of the fastest-rising aerial threats on the modern battlefield.
In the air, Meteksan unveiled MILSAR, a powerful airborne radar designed for ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) missions under any conditions. This synthetic aperture radar with moving target indication functionality allows operators to see through cloud cover, darkness, and poor visibility—problems that defeat conventional optical systems. MILSAR supports wide-area surveillance in Stripmap mode as well as high-precision observation in Spotlight mode. Designed for rapid integration, it can be installed on a UAV, helicopter, or fixed-wing aircraft in just days. MILSAR’s data enables real-time decision-making during counter-terrorism, border patrol, search-and-rescue, maritime surveillance, and illicit activity tracking missions. With 360-degree scan coverage, it brings an unmatched level of battlefield awareness and persistent monitoring to air operations.
Meteksan’s 2025 radar showcase wasn’t just about hardware—it was a strategic statement. The three systems together form a unified ecosystem capable of securing ground, air, and strategic facilities through a layered and integrated approach. The modularity of these technologies allows them to be configured and scaled according to mission type, threat level, and terrain. Whether for a stationary base in a remote desert or a rapidly moving convoy in hostile territory, these systems adapt seamlessly.
At the heart of Meteksan’s approach is an insistence on ruggedization and reliability. All systems are built to perform under extreme environmental stress, from searing heat to sub-zero temperatures, dust storms to tropical humidity. Their high integration potential means they can be linked to NATO-standard command networks and upgraded with AI features to automate target classification and threat prioritization. This makes them highly attractive to allied forces seeking turn-key solutions with minimal footprint and maximum field effectiveness.
IDEF 2025 provided the perfect stage for Meteksan to demonstrate its vision of a multi-layered, autonomous, and AI-enhanced security perimeter. In a world where threats emerge not just from enemy formations but from lone actors, small drones, and hidden movements, the demand for precise, automated, and low-maintenance surveillance systems is surging. Meteksan has clearly positioned itself to meet that demand head-on.
With the Retinar GSR providing long-range eyes on the ground, KAPAN neutralizing drone incursions in real time, and MILSAR scanning vast territories from above, Meteksan offers a full-circle defense solution. This trio represents the cutting edge of Turkish defense innovation and is already making waves on the international stage. As modern warfare shifts to rapid, small-scale engagements and stealth threats, technologies like these are likely to define the next generation of national and border security.
